Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church is located at the corner of Walker Mountain Road and Shady Grove Road in northwestern Etowah County, Alabama. On September 4, 1885, the church was organized with 11 charter members. The first pastor was Brother Chandler and the first deacons were John Garrard and John Bartlett. In April of 1944, the church began plans for a new building only a few yards from its original location. In 1970, a major remodeling program was started with each addition being built and paid for before the next was started. In 1993, Shady Grove joined the Blount County Baptist Association which it is still a part of today.
Shady Grove still adheres to the same principles on which it was founded. The church uses only spiritually inspired, qualified men of God to preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We observe the ordinances of Baptism and Holy Communion; Baptism being the full water submersion of believers with an experience of grace and three times a year we still practice Holy Communion, using unleavened bread and wine, and take part in foot washing services after the communion. Shady Grove holds fast to the doctrine and beliefs as passed down from our forefathers that were derived from the King James Version of the Bible.
If you are looking for a traditional church that still sings from the old hymnals and testifies in the Spirit, then we would like to invite you to our church. Maybe you know nothing about a church like this but are searching for the truth about God and eternity. You are welcome at Shady Grove as well. We believe that salvation is available for “whosoever will” and that repentance and faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. Come visit Shady Grove for the spiritual food your soul desires!
